The philosophical split
Base's bet was permissionless first: open the gates, let memecoins and social apps generate activity, add identity later as an option. It worked — Base became the busiest L2 of its era.
GIWA's bet inverts it: compliance first. Korea's retail market is enormous but tightly regulated — real-name banking, mandatory exchange KYC. GIWA builds that reality into the chain: Dojang attestations link wallets to Upbit KYC via the Ethereum Attestation Service, and giwa.id names are soul-bound to verified users. The flagship product is a Korean won stablecoin — the piece of infrastructure Korea's on-chain economy conspicuously lacks. Where Base courted degens and grew toward institutions, GIWA courts regulators and will grow toward degens.
